Pneumatic Diaphragm Pump Installation Quick Tips

Pneumatic Diaphragm Pump Installation Quick Tips

Veja a seguir!

Choose the correct position of your pump

A posição da bomba é um fator determinante para que ela entregue a produtividade e a durabilidade esperada. Para isso, é necessário se manter atento à alguns fatores fundamentais, que são:

  • Suction Lift: pneumatic diaphragm pumpss are self-priming, being able to pull to a height of up to 9.8 meters. Depending on the case, the pump must be positioned above the fluid, which will be drawn into the equipment. In such cases, it is ideal that the suction tube should be as short as possible. This way you reduce the stress on the pump diaphragm.

  • submerged suction: pneumatic diaphragm pumps they can act submerged in the fluid, but before that, it is imperative that all materials and components are compatible with the fluid being pumped. In addition, the pump exhaust must be located above the fluid level, ensuring that debris larger than the capacity does not enter the equipment.

  • Flooded suction: in cases of submerged suction, there is fluid pressure entering the pump, and the center line is below the pumped fluid. In this scenario, the pump should be as close as possible to the fluid reservoir, in order to reduce the length of the suction line. Remember to control the pressure of the fluid entering the pump, which must be less than 10' of NPSHA pressure. To calculate this pressure (NPSHA = absolute pressure – vapor pressure + static charge – friction), you need to know:

  • The absolute pressure on or at the surface of the fluid;
  • Static Head (the vertical distance from the top of the surface to the impeller eye or pump centerline, when equivalent);
  • Vapor pressure of the pumped fluid;
  • Friction head.

Proper size of pump connections

All piping and accessories used in the inlet and outlet of fluids must be proportionate to the size of the pump. For example: if you are using a 2” pump, the tubing used must be 2” or larger. When piping is smaller, fluid circulation will be restricted, reducing diaphragm durability and flow efficiency.

Filtering and regulating compressed air
Air quality is one of the aspects that most affects the durability of the bomb. Generally, the air that is expelled by air compressors is dirty and unregulated, which can damage and shorten the life of your pump. For this reason, this air must be filtered and regulated, which will provide smooth and efficient operation.

Air filters/regulators play a key role in the performance of pneumatic diaphragm pumps, ensuring that there is more control and precision in the removal of contaminants (liquids or solids), while controlling the air flow. This provides controlled pressure of clean air, reducing downtime due to damage and the need for extra maintenance.

If you don't control air pressure and volume, you can impair your pump's efficiency, as well as shorten its life through overpressurization, unnecessary cycling, and poor starts.
