The challenge
A large corrugated cardboard manufacturer was facing high energy costs due to the use of pneumatic double diaphragm (AODD) pumps in the kitchen and glue transfer lines. Despite working well, these pumps were large energy consumers — something often underestimated by industries.
The Study
The distributor authorized the replacement of two pneumatic pumps with electric glue pumps 2” QUANTM for testing.
The objective was to prove, in practice, the potential savings indicated by theoretical calculations and allow engineers and technicians to learn about the technology.
Test results:
-
QUANTM average energy consumption: 961,5 W/h
-
Average air consumption to AODD: 89,4 m³/h
The estimated annual savings were 91% in energy expenditure, which represents approximately €19,535.50 per pump, leading to a potential for €1,000,000 per year when replacing all drives.
The calculated return on investment (ROI) was only 5 months.
Advantages of QUANTM
-
Same size and fit as pneumatic pumps, allowing direct replacement without changes to installation.
-
It operates with the same characteristics as AODD: for under pressure, it is self-priming, can operate dry and does not have a mechanical seal.
-
Lower noise level, providing a more comfortable working environment.
The Implementation
After testing, approximately 115 bombs in 12 factories, including models of 2” i120 e 1,5” to 80 in polypropylene/Santo.
The result was millionaire annual savings and the definitive inclusion of electric pumps in the company's electrification plan.
